I happened to chat (via email) to a lady from the USA who is into the Reclaiming Movement. This is the Starhawk stuff, I think I've only ever heard it called Wicca, back in the day when she was one of the few well-known writers on it. It also sounds like the sort of stuff Barry Walker who writes for White Dragon magazine might write about ;D Eco-activism stuff. So, has anyone here had any experience of the reclaiming movement? Their witch camp might be fun, if it wasn't £400 Love Kath

It's a good idea in theory but I wonder how easy it is to put into practice. I knew a man who was into it, said he could go all round the country living off the land. Good for him if he could. I'm so not surprised that their camp is so expensive. Kinda makes me wonder sometimes.

Good point. I guess that leaves those of us who don't have any to moan a bit about the cost of things.

It's what those who follow Starhawk of 'the spiral dance' fame call themselves in the USA apparently. 10 years ago over here it was just called 'Wicca.' They're also into political and green activism. www.avaloncamp.org.uk/'What is Reclaiming? Reclaiming is a tradition of witchcraft that was started in the mid 1970's by a group of feminists in Northern California and since has spread throughout the USA, Canada and Europe. One of the best-known members who co-started Reclaiming is Starhawk who has written many books on the Reclaiming style magic, such as 'Dreaming the Dark' and' The Spiral Dance'. Reclaiming-style witches form a worldwide community of women and men, working to unify spirit and politics. Reclaiming encompasses an eclectic mix of pagan approaches whilst still retaining its own evolving style.. Core to Reclaiming is its vision of a community built around non-hierarchical systems, linking politics, magic and community building through consensus. We value each individual's connection of mystery/spirit/divine. Reclaiming is particularly strong in creating public ritual for groups, and healing the connection between people and the environment. Central to Reclaiming are its principles of unity. We see our work as teaching and making magic; the art of empowering each other and ourselves. We train our voices, bodies, energy, intuition, and minds. We use the skills we learn to deepen our strength, both as individuals and as community, to bring to birth a new vision of culture. '

Thank you Kath I wondered what it was. I have heard of Starhawk but was not aware of Reclaiming.
