TDN is funding the planting of about 300 trees on a brownfield site called Abbey Hill, on the outskirts of London, at Sidcup, on Friday 2 February 2007. This will be using money donated to TDN's Tree Planting fund. It will use native broadleaved species such as oak, hawthorn, guelder rose and blackthorn, and help to regenerate and bring life back to a neglected city area. The planting is being organised and run through the charity Trees for Cities, and it will contribute to a larger woodland scheme in this area.
In the last couple of days, two key people from the local grove have had to pull out of this tree planting day due to work circumstances beyond their control. We are now concerned that, because of the need to do the planting on a Friday, we will be low on TDN representatives planting trees!
If you live in London or the surrounding area, and happen to have some spare time next Friday, we would welcome your help. For the uninitiated, tree planting is not difficult - training and equipment will be provided, although old clothes and stout boots are recommended. The day will run from 10am to 3.30pm on Friday 2 February.
If you would like to go along to the tree planting day, please contact Lisa at office@druidnetwork.org . We need to know final numbers a couple of days in advance, so responses by Tuesday, 30 January, would be appreciated.
Needless to say, this is a project TDN will continue to be involved with. We shall fund a marker that states our involvement, make ritual at the site, and keep track of its progress on these website pages.
Each and every person who comes along to Abbey Hill, even for half an hour, will add a magical Druidic gift to this important project. Come along and get muddy, or come along simply to sing your prayers quietly to the spirits of place. Get involved!
Thank you!
