Anyone have plans for the Winter Solstice? I plan to mark the moment of dawn sunrise by being asleep in bed.
Them old Neolithic sorts may have cared, but some of us have noticed the date lol Anyway, the 'hard' evidence for neolithic peoples celebrating this event is open for debate. Just because a few rocks in a field may, 'point' to it is meaningless outside of any cultural context. Also I've noticed that the latest research on Stonehenge seems to indicate is has more to do with -sunset- rather than sunrise.
But I'm given to understand that some people don't mind any modern ritual based on this event being made up; so if you're getting up at dawn on the day to watch the clouds get a sniff lighter, enjoy.

If you're out in the freezing cold, you might as well be in a self-flaggelating Christian sect IMHO. My plans for the solstice involve some eating and mingling, but in my culture people nowadays do this on the run up to 25th December- not the 21st. Which means I get 4 more days to do it in
