They change their minds about Stonehenge all the time as to what it was used for by whom and which way it is alligned. The truth is they don't really know and make a good stab at things hoping to get it right one day.
At last they have found a settlement, I have always said there would have to be a large settlement of some kind, you would need a lot of people to erect the stones no matter how many there were on when for that matter.
It has changed shape over the years as people added stones and the usage would be different from the original use as well, that is only natural. Look at what we do to buildings we change their use all the time so why shouldn't people in ancient times do the same thing. They would not waste a space or material it was hard to come by.
I sometimes wish they would stop thinking that ancient peoples were all stupid or something, they were capable of doing things that we make right mess of today when we try to do the same things. They may not hvae written things down as to how to do something but they were very intelligent and inventive.
Feasts would have been part of their year just as feasts are oart of the year with people today. Thay did things on a grander scale and would have a whole cow to roast, remember the cows would be larger than ours as well. So this find is really important and they will debate what it is all about for months to come.
I love anything like this.
