Has any one ever visited a nursing home and watched the elderly people and wonder what you will be like when you get to their age?

Yes I have and some of the homes are not that brilliant. Some are are really good not all are bad it all depends on the area you live in and how much money is available I suppose. It does make you wonder what would happen if you ever needed to be in such a place. Unfortunately some seem to dismiss the elderly and see them as a nuisance. I know that not everyone is like that but some are. There does seem to be a general lack of respect for the elderly it used to be different as the elderly were respected and seen to be part of society and the social structure of the family. Today they are not and that is sad as the elderly have a lot to offer. I seem to recall hearing about Adopt a Granny scheme!! It sounded a good idea, Some elderly people were offering themselves for adoption as it were to any family who did not not have a grandparent and wanted one. Does anyone else recall this as well?

One of the most depressing days I spent was the day I was at a nursing home as part of a school project. The home I went to was awful. I cried on the way home, it was so sad. I have lots of hope for what I'll be like at that age,I want to be like my aunt. She's in her 80's and just beyond bullsh!t. She says it like it is and to hell with you if you get offended. But, I just don't know what I'll be like then.
