I'm the proud tenant of an allotment. It's a tad run down, but can be made great.
Pics to follow.

Great stuff lots of lovely fresh veg to grow. What are you going to grow? Will you keep your tools there in a shed or will you take them with you each time? Sheds can be great as you can have a cuppa there. Does your allotment have a club that you can join? Ours in MK do and they have trips to different places. You can aslo buy things like seed potatoes and other useful things like string cheaper from the allotment shop than other places.
I hope it is not as bad as the we were once offered it was full of broken glass from an old greenhouse, cans, lots of rotting wood and the weeds! boy were there weeds. It was just too much we had to say NO in the end. We are growing our veg in my son's garden so it is sort of an allotment but not quite. We will share the produce, we grow it and the bulk of the work he tends the veg plots and waters them and buys in some stuff like fertiliser etc. Not a bad litle arrangement.

Planning to grow fruit and veg, mostly spuds sweet corn, onions, salad crops etc. this year. I also want a herb area as my garden is not very sunny and my plot would be idea.
There a fair bit of rubbish on it at the moment, but the Council are removing it 'within two weeks'. It has got a small (and somewhat in need of a little TLC shed) but I won't keep tools in there. There is an association there, Margret who runs it has asked me if I would like to join, so I probably will.
I did three hours of digging today, and loved it!

Latest allotment news:
The shed is now, more or less re-painted. All the areas I won't be putting under cultivation this year have been sprayed to keep the weeds and grass under control. I've also planted a hazel hedge along one side.

Looks like a good plot. Does it have a composter as well? Some plots that were used before have them already built and with a bit of work are fine to reuse.
We are growing potatoes in a an old compost bag. It works well as there is no digging which for me is huge bonus. When the potatoes are ready I simply split the bag open and delve in to find all my lovely potatoes without having to dig for them. I put the compost onto the garden and the tops go into the compost bin at my sons house. We could have a bin out the back but I don't think it would be around for long as it would disappear. If you want something stolen put it in the communal area of the flats and it vanishes, sometimes overnight. We could grow lovely tomatoes out there as it is a real sun trap but I don't think we would many of them.
Tyres work well for growing potatoes in but I don't want old tyres in the garden, now if I had allotment I would grow my potatoes in old tyres. You can always paint the tyres so they look a bit better if you wanted to. Now if we could find someone to share a plot with that would be perfect as we could help each other out. I love growing vegetables it is so satisfying when you can harvest them and eat the fresh produce that you have grown.

I've built a composter out of the turfs I've cut out. I've seen the potato tire thing, Bob Flowerdew was the first person I saw doing that. I'm not keen on it myself, makes your plot look like a scrap yard. lol I might try potato growing bags though at some point.

I got my first potato crop off my plot Saturday. The beans are looking OK, but the sweetcorn seems to be struggling with this wet weather (we know who to blame for that ) Could really do with August and September being hot and sunny or they won't crop at all.

Been hit by potato blight, like just about every other allotment holder in Birmingham. I spent the after noon cutting the tops off down to the earth. If I leave any spuds I want to store for three weeks or so they should be ok.
Any I want to use right away I can still lift and use.
I did think of spraying, but to be honest it's that wet it would have little to no effect.
