OK I admit it I am fat. To be honest I far too fat for my own good and need to do something about it. The hardest part is sticking to a diet. I start out with good intentions and after 2 weeks lapse back to eating things I know I should not have. Exercise, I know I should do it and I start off with the intention of doing it but you guessed it I end up as a couch potato again. Yes I have problems and pain does stop me from doing what I want to but how much of that is an excuse on my part?
So I need and want to lose weight. So is there anyone who has a few ideas that may help me out with finding ways to actually stick to a diet or exercise? I need some inspiration and maybe a diet buddy. I have had a diet buddy in the past but she gave up so that was no help at all. Weigh Watchers etc are far too expensive so that is not an option. I need a bit of help to stay on track. So I have come here to my friends to ask for some help.

Yes I have problems and pain does stop me from doing what I want to but how much of that is an excuse on my part? To be honest, your GP sounds a bit crap at times Wulfcwen, they have not done a lot to help you. I have a friend that was very overweight, probably much bigger than you, and her GP offered her tablets which break up any fat she would eat, and also referred her to the exercise on prescription scheme. Perhaps it would be worth your while as part of your plan, to go back and explain to them that you are finding it hard to do on your own? A lot of GPs also run a support group for those who want to lose weight, where you could meet even more people to support you They say that if you find a form of exercise etc you like, you are more likely to stick to it. Have you tried swimming recently, you might find you don't mind it and it wouldn't cause as much pain in your arthritis and feet as other forms of exercise, because it puts no pressure on your joints. The same for your food, you are lucky enough to like veg, there are probably a lot of healthy foods you like and you could increase the amount of veg and decrease the amount of spud or meat you put on your plate. Find a few meals you really like that are very low calorie and then eat them as much as you want Such as gaspachio soup or ratatouille, I have been making a mean gaspachio soup Similar to this but I use cheap onions vinegar etc and don't put crutons in. allrecipes.com/Recipe/Gazpacho-3/Detail.aspxoooh have you tried rice cakes? I've just got into them, they're very low fat and also filling. I go on the forum www.weighthingychers.co.uk/community/mbd/index.aspx it's free! One of the ladies might work out how many points you are allowed if you ask nicely, and there are lots of tips and support on there too. My name is 'Acropolis' on there:) Because of your health problems, your GP should be being more helpful than he is, because losing weight might make a difference to your health, he would know of any groups, tablets, and have more suggestions for exercise for your specific conditions. You could also nip onto a forum for those with arthritis or fasciitis and see what they are doing exercise-wise. I can't diet at the mo (will PM you) but I could be your lifestyle buddy In that I'm up for someone encouraging me to eat more greens etc, I've spent most of the day eating cake If we basically ate mainly veg with just the odd treat or something, there's no reason why you wouldn't lose weight and me eat a proper amount of fruit n veg. We could report in here every few days or something about how we are doing, or we could email or text each other if we feel tempted by cake or anything

Your right my Doctor is far from helpful. He did give me some pills but they did not suit me at all and caused problems with my liver. Oh they worked by not allowing my body to absorb the fats in my diet but they caused other problems as well.
Excercise on prescription I bet he knows nothing about that. I seem to educate him as to what is around and what I need as well. I sometimes wonder what he does know about a healthy lifestyle.
Swimming !!! Me and water do not mix well. I have a terrible fear of water, oh I would go to the swimming pool with my children and I even helped them to gain their confidence in the water but I was not happy in the water myself. They never knew that I was not happy in the water as I can hide it but I really hate being in water. It partly stems from my Mother promising to hold me up in the water when I was a child and then letting go me I went the water under every single time.
I love going for walks but Colin hates it and going for a walk on my own is not a safe option. I walk in the flat and yes it is very boring, I do it before he gets up.
I tried the link but cannot find the forum I put in the missing letters wat as the link comes out with thingy in the address. It keeps coming up with sign up and that means paying and I can't do that. Boy am I moaning that has to stop I am not going to a moaning old blankety blank as well LOL
On the positve side I have not gained any weight so that is god what I need to do is get the scale to shift in downward mode and to keep it moving in that direction.
I have sent a PM to you as well.

Your right my Doctor is far from helpful. He did give me some pills but they did not suit me at all and caused problems with my liver. Oh they worked by not allowing my body to absorb the fats in my diet but they caused other problems as well. They do have nasty side effects too and don't suit a lot of people. Even if they don't have that, there should be some sort of exercise group. Nag him or have a look round the surgery for any posters. Oooh I didn't realise that you can do much walking what with your feet. For our estate there is a walking club! I keep meaning to go, they meet on a tuesday and go for walks. You could visit the Neighbourhood office and see if there are any posters up for free exercise groups. I have a variety of exercise machines I can use in front of the telly Barry lent me a machine but I also have a skip-dived exercise bike, and a thing for exercises toning your waist that was £3 in home bargains. I try and do exercises in front of the telly, little dances or leg raises and stuff. You can listen to your body as what is right for you to do, and stop immediately if you feel any pain. It seems a lot less boring if I'm watching something on the telly at the same time, or exercising in the adverts. You do not have to pay to go on the forums, it's free (you think a cheapskate like me would pay money ) You can register for the forums for free www.weightwatchers.co.uk/util/Login.aspx?txtHiddenURL=/index.aspx click on the option on the bottom right here to find out more If it doesn't work, you could mail them, it really is quite good on there Yay! Well done you for not putting on any more weight P.S. I have switched off most of the annoying word changing thing, so hopefully it won't do it as much now:)

No lol they are real women, they will understand lack of money. The core plan you might like. You don't have to count points, but instead choose from a list of healthier foods, that you can eat until you are no longer hungry. You have a small amount of points a week too for treat foods. These are the foods you are allowed * Vegetables and fruits * Soups (non-creamy) * Whole Wheat Pasta, Brown Rice, Potatoes and Grains * High Fiber and other cereals without added sugar * Lean Meats, poultry, fish and eggs * Fat-Free Milk Products * Healthy Oils * Condiments * Coffee, Tea and sugar-free beverages Mainly it is following a very low fat, high fibre diet, and allegedly you will follow this diet without feeling stupidly hungry! I don't trust it though lol but that's just me, I don't trust myself not to eat like a pig on it. You might find it good as your diet sounds like it's almost there anyway

Thanks I would not have to change much which is a good thing and no points that is a huge bonus I hate having to count things like calories or points. So whole grain foods is in thats great I love whole grain. No added sugar again a bonus as all my cereals are no added sugar. I have de-caf tea and coffee both drunk black. Fruit great I love my fruit. As for veg bring it on I love my veg I do eat meat but not a lot I am not a carnivore unlike hubby who loves his meat. I will give that a go and see how I do on it. Portion control will be must and I am working on that one.
